Santino was the former Master of the Rome coven. It was there that he instructed Armand in the ways of the Children of Darkness, then sent him on to Paris to run the coven there. Santino is perhaps best known for his cruelty, but also said as intelligent, gentle and sharp. Even though there is little to know about him, some is known and told in the few pages of the books he has been in.

Before Marius would leave Rome, he would encounter Santino. Santino sought knowledge, and that perhaps Marius would come and speak with his coven, possibly even lead them. Marius would have none of it, and after a few mild threats then setting his robes ablaze he left him in rage. Santino cursed Marius with all the strength he could muster.

What we didn’t know for a while was that Santino’s faith had waned greatly; he was disillusioned about his role among the coven members. Marius spoke of splendours and things that he had that Santino could have if he so desired. It was weakness that kept him with the coven for as long as it did till he broke away from that and went his own way. Leaving them to their own ends. This is perhaps where he met Eric and became his companion.

Santino, along with Pandora rescued Marius from the cavern of ice he found himself trapped in. Marius could do nothing to Santino then and there like he wanted to; the urgency of the meeting in the Sonoma compound required his attention. That time while the Queen yet lived, was a terrible time for Santino. She rudely referred to the covens of the old days, Santino’s silent torment was broken open once more, and his pain filled him. After that time not much is known about him.

When Armand was believed to be dead, it was Santino who sought out Marius, to bring him what remained of Armand, the velvet clothing and strands of hair was all that remained. It was then, when chance brought Santino and Marius together again, albeit under terrible circumstances, it was then that Santino admitted to Marius that he had loved Armand.

One can say for certain or not, Santino, leader of the Rome coven of the Children of Darkness, died violently at the hands of Thorne. He killed Santino near the very presence of his maker, Maharet who was giving Santino justice, letting him live. Marius wanted his death but since Maharet was the voice of the eldest, he did nothing but regretfully bend to her will on that matter. He was apparently slain in the presence of Maharet, Armand and Pandora.

He is known to love sleek black sports cars, classical music and playing chess. His maker is unknown to us, as are those he loved. He is tall and well muscled; he has large black eyes and long black hair and is very handsome. He is Italian by birth and to this day still holds a rich, lilted accent.
